UNCHAINED ASIA

Headquartered in both Shenzhen, China and Hong Kong, Unchained educates, promotes, helps incubate and distributes electronic music in the region.

Now synonymous with the exciting development and growth of contemporary Bass music in China, their reach extends well beyond just events and a music label and are fast becoming a multi-focused music platform. They are considered by some as the main force in Drum’n’Bass in China today.

Roaming in the forward-thinking universe of sound that is Bass music, their focus is on Halftime and Drum & Bass yet embrace the full variant of electronic is on the table.

Unchained club nights are typically packed events focused on the dancefloor where every new release from their label is tested and where regular international talent from various corners of the globe are showcased.

UNCHAINED RECORDINGS

Born out of the desire to develop a bridge between a fast-growing community of bass music zealots in China and the rest of the global music community, Unchained Recordings mission was clear – stay true to the dancefloor traditions of Drum and Bass yet fully embrace the multi-genre battleground that is modern electronic music; be relevant to China and the world at large but always and only pursue the music that they love.

With a consistent run of quality monthly releases, they have earned the recognition some of the industry’s top music curators and denizens of the scene including MixMag, XLR8R, Inspector Dubplate, BBC 1xtra, Noisia Radio and many more.

Based on their release trajectory, including the likes of craftsman such as Subp Yao, Sinistarr, Kabuki and OAKK as well as high-profile remixes by Hospital Records’ stars Whiney and Royalston, it is obvious that Unchained Recordings are true to Drum and Bass but also embrace the richness of the ever-evolving face of modern electronic music.

BIT THERAPY

As a natural progression forward, Unchained enjoys supporting local artists through activities such as producer mentoring, education/workshops, masterclasses and DJ coaching. This is run by Unchained’s community arm – “BiT Therapy”.

Their producer meetups gives new or established artists of all ages from as young as 14 years of age, the chance to perform their own material to other producers and their peers.

The meetups also provide an opportunity for artists to develop connections and collaborate.

With an online school and video mentoring program in planning, they see Unchained Education as an important spoke in the wheel of the burgeoning music community and for the scene as a whole.

DANIEL POWER

CO-FOUNDER

Co-Founder of Unchained | Daniel has been managing Unchained's events since day one. Defining, developing and elevating Drum and bass in South China for many years now, he is considered partly responsible for the ‘new wave’ in Bass now underway across China. He resides in Shenzhen and regularly tours across the region playing in both developed and emerging electronic music scenes. He is often the DJ of choice as both club headliner, festival ticket and as support for some of the scene’s most respected touring artists.

LYNDON JARR

CO-FOUNDER

Co-founder of Unchained | Lyndon manages the group’s label, Unchained Recordings, and is a recognised Bass music producer releasing on labels such as SmallPrint and The Dreamers Recordings. Whilst based in Hong Kong and China for the past 10 years where he pushed forward electronic music with events, DJ workshops and producer mentoring, he now runs the label from Sydney, Australia - where he now resides.

ABBY YUEN (JUST BEE)

HEAD OF UNCHAINED MIX

Hong Kong-native Abby or Just Bee forms a core part of the team. Helping curate and execute our ongoing Unchained Mix Series he focus is on emerging and recognised talent from a diverse pool of Drum and Bass DJs. Whether as a radio host, originator of creative strategy for the group or as a stellar example of homegrown talent, Bee continues to grow her presence across the Asian region.

NICK GAVIN (IMMUNO)

HEAD OF QUALITY CONTROL

Nick has been climbing the ranks as an exceptional DJ for years whether as a finalist in DJ competitions, his 3 deck mixing or being invited to play regularly alongside A-list artists. Nick oversees the quality of sound at all Unchained events, helps monitor the mastering quality of label releases and provides strategic input on the group’s direction.

KIAN CHONG (KRAY)

HEAD OF DISTRIBUTION & OPERATIONS

With his roots in Hong Kong, Kian Chong ‘Kray’ is Head of Distribution and Operations for Unchained Recordings. He currently resides in London, UK, where he makes valuable contributions to the ongoing success and growth of the label. Kian is also an accomplished DNB producer and DJ, whether it be playing in the Gobi Desert, dropping his sound at legendary Beijing club Lantern, to gracing the London rave scene.

MIKE KENNY (AIRSTRIKE)

HEAD OF ELECTRONIC MEDIA & LEAD DEVELOPER

Originally from Brighton, England, Mike has spent the last two decades in the US as a full stack web developer, graphic designer and DNB producer, with releases on labels like DJ Trace's 117 Records and Offworld Recordings. Mike handles Unchained's web presence and the development of several forthcoming Unchained digital products.

SAGAR DESHMUKH

HEAD OF DIGITAL AND SOCIAL MEDIA

Whilst both a Drum & Bass zealot and DJ, Sagar holds the mantle as Head of Social and Digital Media. Based in Mumbai and having worked as a music journalist covering D&B and the broader spectrum of Bass music for many years, he sets and executes our digital media agenda; assists in promoting the label’s releases and helps us in connecting with our followers.

JAMES MCDONNELL (FRACTALONE)

SOUND DESIGN

As a lover of all things technical in Drum & Bass music, James is one half of the Tech Drum & Bass and Neurofunk duo FractalOne. Hailing from Melbourne Australia, he has been a big enthusiast of the Unchained vision from the get go. He provides general assistance including sound design work on our mix series uploads and radio/podcasts.

SOLA CHAN (FOAMBB)

SOCIAL MEDIA MANAGER CHINA

Inspired by the rising tide of DNB in Shenzhen China, Chinese native Sola began with his own DJ collective: D1SG0V3RNMENT. Over time, his DJ talents captured the attention of Unchained - he has long since become a staple on Unchained's event line ups. Now, heavily invested in the long-term growth of Bass across China, he assists us to reach out into the social media universe of mainland China.
